Nancy Rose O'Reilly was just 19 years old when she had her baby in St. John's, Newfoundland. The father was a poor Portuguese fisherman named Leonardo Santos. They were madly in love but Leo loved his family back in Portugal too.  And Nancy, alone and destitute, knew it was best for the baby to let him go back with Leonardo, to be raised a Portuguese boy.

34 years later football god Nicodemus Santos wakes up in a luxury hotel room in Lisbon. The loss of his father when he was just a little boy of 10 haunts him still, but it helps that he's worshipped by an entire country of football fans. It's true he's picked up some bad habits along the way.  Life has been so damn good to him.

But then his world is turned upside down.  His dying mother, Veronica, tells him he’s really the son of a woman from Newfoundland, in Canada. Her name - Nancy Rose O'Reilly.

Nico is compelled to look for her.  On the other side of the ocean Nancy Rose never expected to see her boy again but she’s never stopped waiting.
